The Camino Fray Junípero Serra offers a fascinating way to experience the history and cultural heritage of the Sierra Gorda, following a route associated with the Franciscan missionary and the region's historic missions. But if you're looking for a true mountain hiking adventure, there are other routes I prefer. From the remote landscapes of Los Caminos Ancestrales de los Xi'uiy to El Avatar, Los Tres Estados, Amazona, Expedition Xichú, and Mission Impossible, these adventures leave the roads behind and take you deeper into the mountains, canyons, and rivers of the Sierra Gorda.
